Since the 1st of January 2025, I’ve been getting into cold water outside in my swimsuit for at least three minutes a day.

I’m doing it to raise money for our fabulous choir. The Sing Their Name Choir is for people in Greater Manchester who have lost someone they love to suicide. We meet most Wednesdays in central Manchester, combining the peer support we provide to each other with the health benefits of singing. We also perform publicly to try to destigmatise this kind of loss.

I joined the choir in early 2023 (eight years after losing my husband). The original plan was simply for us to perform at the Baton of Hope that summer. Once that was done, we knew we had to continue. We’ve recently set up as a community interest company and are looking for funding to secure our future. Hence the 100 days of dipping!

I’ve kept pretty quiet about the challenge because tbh, I wasn’t entirely sure I could do it… the early days of January weren’t fun (even though I'm smiling in most of the photos)! But somehow I’m nearly there now – just seven days to go! My fundraising target (£900) would definitely cover our expenses for a month - I'd love to do that, and more if I can!

I know times are tough, but please know that any donation will be so gratefully received. If you share this page, you might also help someone grieving the loss of a loved one to suicide to find us. It really will help them to feel less alone 💛

Thank you so much,

Lahra
